EQ901 Equalizer Series
Common questions about Deer Creek Audio's EQ901 equalizer series for Bose® 901 speakers.
Are the Deer Creek Audio EQ901 series of replacement equalizers superior to the BOSE® OEM units?
In general, the answer to that question is yes. But the degree depends on several factors.
When comparing an EQ901 to a mint condition OEM equalizer, the differences can be subtle. If the original Bose® OEM Equalizer is in less than excellent shape with aging capacitors, sliders and connectors, then the new EQ901s are vastly superior.
The EQ901 series is based on the high-performance analog device's digital signal processor, so the noise and distortion are lower and the dynamic range is greater, leading to better audio performance.
In testing, our goal was to have the EQ901 series equalizers be as close as possible to the factory EQ response, with additional enhancements in dynamic and frequency range for lower noise and distortion.
How do I make sure my BOSE 901 speakers are working properly?
If you're thinking about restoring or evaluating a set of Bose 901s, here's a video that offers tips on getting them in top shape: Test and Tune Your Bose 901s
What are the different features of the EQ901 models in the series?
All models in the EQ901 series are compared in the EQ901 Series Selection Guide.
What are the advantages of adding the Active Crossover option to the EQ901 Elite?
The purpose of the active crossover filter is to properly integrate the subwoofer with high frequency speakers, resulting in the following positive effects:
- The main speakers are relieved of their ultra low bass responsibilities, dramatically lowering distortion and improving clarity and dynamic range.
- The subwoofer is limited to its low frequency range and properly integrated with the Bose 901 speakers, giving a clear, tight sound.
Can I use my EQ901 for something other than my Bose 901 speakers?
The EQ901 is specifically designed for use with Bose 901 speakers. Although it is possible to use it with another set of speakers, it is not recommended as it would cause excessive bass and treble.

The Flex HT and HTx look complicated. How can I configure it for my system?
The miniDSP Flex HT and HTx both bring an unprecedented ability to create precisely executed audio configurations for immersive audio and home theater systems. This complexity can be a bit overwhelming though, which is why we created the Signal Flow Library.
The Flex HT or HTx is easier to navigate when you have a plan to follow. The signal flow diagram makes the task of creating the various pages in the Flex HTx Device Console configuration much easier to follow.
The Signal Flow Library has a variety of reference signal flow diagrams for both home theater and audio systems incorporating a Flex HT or HTx. You can browse the examples for one that fits your situation, or use a blank signal flow diagram to design your own system before applying it to your Flex HTx or HT.

Hypex Class D Amplifiers
Common questions about Hypex Class D Amplifiers.
How do I remove the cover from a Nilai 500 amplifier to change the gain setting jumpers?
Using the tools provided, first loosen the four outer screws on the rear panel and the four screws attaching the feet to the bottom panel. Only loosen the screws by a couple of turns, until they aren’t tight. Next remove the two tiny allen screws that are underneath the front panel and flip it upwards. This allows you to remove and then reinsert the top sliding cover.
All of the Nilai 500 assembled amplifiers and DIY amplifier kits shipped by Deer Creek Audio are set to the middle gain setting. This is appropriate for 95% of preamplifiers.
How do the Hypex Nilai 500 amplifiers compare to other high performance amplifiers?
Within the category of high current capacity solid state amplifiers, it's generally true that the more expensive you go the better the audio experience, however, there are diminishing returns as you hit the extreme edge of price.
We have facilitated testing and listening to a variety of amplifiers, mostly Class AB. We have discovered that most amplifiers today sound pretty darn good. In our last amplifier shootout at Deer Creek Audio, we compared 7 amplifiers including the Nilai 500. The Nilai 500 measured better than all, however it came out second in the listening comparison to a $32,000 Ayre. What set the top two apart from the more common amplifiers was a smooth neutrality with superior imaging and layering.
Having said all that, we think going with the Nilai 500 will bring you happily into the ultra-high end amplifier world.
What differentiates Hypex amplifiers assembled by Deer Creek Audio?
Hypex amplifiers assembled by Deer Creek Audio utilize parts supplied by Hypex or an approved Hypex OEM manufacturer, including the case, cabling and all connectors.
In addition, all line level cabling is twisted and shielded. All other cabling is twisted with an offsetting outer plastic shield. Cable runs are extremely short and do not drape across the amplifier boards.
We have taken great care to make sure that we deliver every available bit of performance out of these high quality, Hypex amplifiers.
